invite comes up with different user name than their email address

    I’ve sent an invite to someone with a gmail account. It does not show up as them. It shows up as a totally random different name. But the invite does go to the right person? Whacky ghost or???

    Hi there,

    Can you please provide some more details? To what email address did you send the invitation, and what is the username displaying on your site that you don’t recognise?

    Keep in mind that when someone creates an account on WordPress.com they can set the username to be whatever they want. There doesn’t have to be any similarity at all between the username and the email address.

    Additionally people can also set a public display name, which itself can be completely different from the account username. If a display name is set, that’s what will show as the post/comment author on the site for that user, with the username only used within the dashboard.
