Invites.can’t view private blog
-
I’ve invited several friends, and they all say they can’t view it because it says it’s private.Anyone know why?
-
Yes! You have set up your blog to be private and “protected”.
Exactly what were you aiming for please?
We can’t help unless you give more information. :) -
I’m [age deleted – drmike] so i wanted it to be private, not public, and i invited family and friends to view it.but they can’t.i mean me and my mom used the thing you can fill out to invite them…….

(1) I could be wrong but I believe the law requires that you have to be 13 years of age or older to have your own blog here.
(2) All of the people your mom wants to allow to see her blog must become registered here too. If they don’t register they cannot see the blog which is probably what’s happening in this case.
(3) Here is more information that your MOM should read as she will be the blogger getting the service from the forum

Hi Timethief! Thanks for the info, and I read it all, and I am the Mom. I didn’t see the exact problem anywhere, but maybe our invites didn’t complete registration. Some said they did and still got a private message. Is there a time lag from registering to being able to view? Thank you again, and for any help in the future.

We have no such requirement.

@mark
Thanks for the clarity. I must have had that in my mind from some other places I belong to (forums).@aussielover
G’day
While you’re waiting for staff to get back to you, here are the results from the forum search box that you may want to check out
http://wordpress.com/forums/search.php?q=private+blogWhat I do know for sure is that those whom you want to see the blog must all be registered here (this does not mean they actually have to develop a blog, although they could if they wanted to). Perhaps you should confirm with those you invited that they understand that this is the case and that they did register.

Once the person you invited signs up and you know their wordpress username, then you add them under Options > Privacy.
-
Mark, I have to disagree since the servers reside here in teh States but I don’t recall the poster ever stating their age.
It’s a COPPA requirement. Probably one of the reasons why WP.com doesn’t take any of that information when a user signs up. (“Can you say loophole? I knew you could.”)
Although I do note that email address is listed on there as an item that can’t be taken. I thought it wasn’t. Hmmm….
Aussie, what you need to do is have your friends create an account here at http://wordpress.com They don’t need to have their own blog but they do at least need an account. When they sign up, there’ll be an option to just get an account.
Once they do that, what you need to do is visit Dashboard -> Options -> Privacy. You should see a space on that page to add in a User who would be able to see your blog. I believe you need to put in their email address that they used to create an account here at wordpress.com and click on Add User.
Mark, do they get an email or something when they’re added in? Might be an idea if they currently don’t.
Hope this helps,
-drmike -
