Inviting current followers to blog when I make it private

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi,

I’m planning to make my public blog private, and I’d like to invite my current followers to become viewers (the ones who I’ve spoken or interacted with at least). To send them an invite I need either their e-mail address or username, how do I get either of these?
When I look at my list of followers in the people section, are their usernames the words/letters/numbers following the @ symbol, underneath their name or blog name? Or do I need to individually message them to ask them either for that information, or ask them to follow me when I change it to private?

    Thank you,
    Cara

  • Hi there,

For the followers you have listed here: https://wordpress.com/people/followers/herjourneytobefree.wordpress.com

You can invite them by pasting their username (the one with the @ sign) here: https://wordpress.com/people/new/herjourneytobefree.wordpress.com

When filling out you invite, you will want to use the username only, so you can leave out the @ symbol on the invite itself.

You can invite 10 at a time, and when you send your invite you will want to set the user role to “Follower” and then leave a little note letting them know they are getting the invite because you are making the site private — they may not act on it otherwise.

Hope that helps. Please let us know if you have any more questions.
