inviting new users

  • Unknown's avatar

When i invite users to my private blog they get an invitation with option 1 and option 2. Option 1 asks for a users ID and password option 2 does not require that and takes you right in. Some people are saying that they try option 2 after they used option 1 (using a different email address) the application still asks them for a user ID and a PW. How do i solve that?
    Thanks,
    Dan

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Hi Dan,

They’ll need to enter the username or email address used to create their WordPress.com account. If they want to use a different email address, they can update it from the Settings tab on the WordPress.com home page.

Let me know if you have any other questions. :-)

Thank you for this, it is very helpful. For the ones that somehow got a user ID. If i send them another invite and they chose option 2 that should generate user id automatically right?..so i wonder why they are telling me that it will not allow them to get in.

  • They would first need to signup for a WordPress.com account using the email address that you sent the invite to.

This will give them access to the blog via the invitation.

Sorry to keep coming back to the same issue. What I noticed is that folks who received the invite to an email address and picked accept (option 2) the system generated everything for them. They did not need to create a user ID, that is where we are trying to go. Most of the participants are not computer savvy.

How to “reset” it for the folks who got confused when they got the invite and went the option 1 route.

The only way for me to know what they are choosing, option 1 or option 2 is by the confirmation type i get back as the admin.

    Thank you again

  • If it did everything for them, that means they already had a WordPress.com account.

They do need a WordPress.com account to be a user on your blog, so if they aren’t already, there’s no way around that part.
