Inviting Users.
-
I have sent an invitation to a colleague to be an Administrator on my blog (www.surferrosa.com.au) . He advises that while he received and accepted the invitation, he did not receive an activation key or further prompts to create a username or password.
I am aware of the security risks in inviting a new user to be an Administrator. Given this, I have since deleted the original invitation.
Can you please advise what kind of role i should assign if i dont want them to be a full administrator, but want them to temporarily be able to work on pages, widgets and appearance.
thanks
russellThe blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi Russell –
You can read about the various user roles here:
http://en.support.wordpress.com/user-roles/For widgets, theme, etc., though, they’ll need to be an administrator. You can change their user role after they’re done from Users->All Users, however.
To add them, they should first create a username-only WordPress.com account:
https://en.wordpress.com/signup/?user=1Then please invite them again. If you still have any trouble, let me know.

Hi there
the person I invited already has a Word Press account. The invitation he received from me did not provide an option to log in to his user account and activate the invitation.
He’s sent me this Youtube link to creating a new user, which indicates there is a function called Add User. I dont see this on my screen, so im not sure if this is an old or new function in WordPress. Which leads me to two questions:
1. Should I be on a more up to date version of Word Press in order to be able to Add User instead of inviting them? How do i get this version up date?
2. Assuming Inviting Users is the most up to date way to add them, what are the steps my intended user should follow once he receives the invitation?
thank you

Likely that video is referring to a self-hosted installation of WordPress, rather than WordPress.com. Here at WordPress.com, we handle all updates for you, so you are always on the most recent version. And some processes are a bit different here than documentation you’ll find for self-hosted WordPress sites.
All of our documentation is here: http://en.support.wordpress.com/
Assuming Inviting Users is the most up to date way to add them, what are the steps my intended user should follow once he receives the invitation?
He should get an invite that says something like ‘accept’ and if he’s logged in, it should take him right to your site, and if he’s not, it should take him to the login form.
Can you please try inviting that user again? What’s the user’s email address or username? It might be that they have a user account, but it’s linked to a different email address than they think.
