    Hi, i have spoken to ionos and they suggested that i need to download the wordpress files and a database back up inorder to upload it to ionos for them to host this site, please advise?

    Hi there,

    A full-site migration like Ionos suggested is not possible for sites hosted on WordPress.com, as we use our own modified version of the software which doesn’t work the same as the version you’ll be using over there.

    The only part of your WordPress.com site that can be migrated is the content, i.e. your posts, pages and comments. You can export those at My Site ->Tools ->Export.

    On Ionos’s end you’ll need to install a new copy of the WordPress software first. Then log into the new site’s dashboard, and import the file you got from us at Tools ->Import ->WordPress Importer.
