Ionos -> WordPress
-
I want to complete a full transfer of my domain and site from Ionos MyWebsite to WordPress. I understand how to transfer my domain but I’m worried that I will lose my site’s data without importing it to WordPress properly; I have lots of blog content and individual pages that took time to design. Any advice/previous experience transferring from Ionos (1&1) would be much appreciated!

Hi there!
If your current site on Ionos is using WordPress, you can use this guide to see how to move your content over to WordPress.com:
https://transferto.wordpress.com/self-hosted-wordpress-org/
You don’t need to change your domain nameservers while you get your site set up – in fact I recommend you get your content moved over first, then when you’re ready to switch over, just update the domain nameservers over at IONOS first, then once your site is all set up here, transfer the domain over.
If you have other questions, please let us know the URL of the site you’re wanting to move over and we’ll be better able to advise.
I hope that helps!

Hello there!
Thanks for your advice, the site in question is run solely on Ionos and its not clear from their help section how best to export site data to import to WordPress
The site URL is http://www.thegrassup.com if you would like to have a look.
Thanks for your help so far!

That site does not appear to be built with WordPress. I suspect it was built with the Ionos sitebuilder.
In the past, Ionos customers have reported that Ionos support told them there was no way to export their site in a WordPress compatible format, but it may be worth contacting them and seeing if that has changed. As of 2019, it was not possible:
https://wordpress.com/forums/topic/need-help-with-exporting-my-website-to-wordpress/
So, to start, I’d suggest contacting Ionos support and asking them if there are any export options. If that isn’t possible, you’ll need to consider copying and pasting manually as described in the forum thread I linked to from 2019.
Let us know if anything is unclear or you have any further questions.
