  Hi there, If you are trying to map a custom domain to your WordPressdotcom site, it is better to use the DNS settings as IP addresses can change over time. Mapping a domain requires a paid upgrade here.

  Hi kipoint,

  As justjennifer mentioned, domain mapping is a feature of paid plans (Personal, Premium and Business):

  http://en.support.wordpress.com/map-existing-domain/

  Each paid plan includes a free domain credit which you can use to map a domain you already own (or register a new one). The guide I linked to above has instructions for updating the DNS settings.
