  I have a GoDaddy domain that points to my wordpress site, but it keeps failing and GoDaddy said better that I give them its ip address

  In order for a custom domain to correctly work with a WordPress.com site, you will need the Domain Mapping upgrade. Domain Mapping is included in all WordPress.com paid plans:

  Once you have purchased a plan, here is a support document that will explain how to set up Domain Mapping with your domain:
