IP Address – A Record. Causing issues with a Design company…
-
We had our website hosted with a design company.
We decided we wanted to move our website to WordPress as it suited our company more. It’s better SEO than they were providing and it was obviously a great way to integrate our blog by the blog becoming the site.
We have the domain cpcworldwide.co.uk and propertyproblemsabroad.co.uk hosted by them (via 123-reg) and have our emails hosted by them as well.
Now in order to keep it simple, I thought it best to keep our emails with them. Being a business we cannot afford any downtime and cannot change the email address. Also dealing with legal disputes, we need to ensure that the emails are secure and recorded.
They want to set up an A record in order to redirect the websites to our cpcworldwide.wordpress.com but I cannot find the latest IP addresses. I’ve provided them with the following I found on the forum…
76.74.254.120
72.233.69.6
72.233.2.58
66.155.9.238
76.74.254.123
66.155.11.238I know that they change but it’s concerning me that without checking the site daily, I wouldn’t know if the website was down.
I paid for the domain mapping through wordpress.com and wondered what I can do to ensure our emails remain as they are and our website is reliable.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. :)

Hi there,
Unfortunately, I can’t think of a way to make this happen. The only way to reliably point your domain to your WordPress.com site, would be by updating the nameservers to ours:
- NS1.WORDPRESS.COM
- NS2.WORDPRESS.COM
- NS3.WORDPRESS.COM
This would essentially stop your emails for the time being, but you can always add email by adding custom records. Here’s a guide on adding email:
http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/add-email/
Check with your host for the exact records, and it shouldn’t take more than a couple hours to propagate – usually.
Unfortunately, if you don’t want to do it this way, you will have to check your site consistently and ask us for the new IP addresses once they change. We change out the IPs we use based on when different datacenters/server go online.
I’m sorry that there isn’t more that I could do.
