ip address for wordpress

  • Unknown's avatar

I need the current ip address to link my site

  • Hi, I just see a free site on this account; can you let me know what you’re hoping to do? Just pointing to our IPs alone would result in an error.

If you want to add a custom domain, I’d recommend transferring or mapping:
    http://wordpress.com/support/domains/map-existing-domain/

It’s free with all paid plans, plus the plans get rid of ads and give you access to direct support.

Or, if you just want to look up your current IPs, try this from a command prompt:
    nslookup yoursite.wordpress.com ns1.wordpress.com

Thank you will try this out!

So, tried this “yoursite.wordpress.com ns1.wordpress.com” I dont think i am doing it right because i either get an error or it brings me straight to the page. can you give me a step by step how to get my current IPs please? and what it would look like when i am on the right page

    thank you so much

  • Hello there,

Can you tell me the domain you’re trying to use with your site please?

Perhaps we can put together some next steps to help you get to where you would like to be?

    Many thanks in advance.

hi, thank you for helping me. the domain I’m trying to use is GiantStepsPress.com but my URL on WordPress is https://giantstepspress.wordpress.com/

  • Ok, you’ll need to follow the steps at https://wordpress.com/support/domains/map-existing-domain/

When it comes to adding the name servers, you’ll do that on your domain registrars end.

Assuming I have properly identified your domain registrar, you’ll follow their steps at https://domainreg3.domainpal.com/kb/node/3 and set your domain’s name servers to:

    ns1.wordpress.com
    ns2.wordpress.com
    ns3.wordpress.com

Hi, think there was a miscomunication. I am trying to find out my ips for my WordPress site. Another staff member said to “Or, if you just want to look up your current IPs, try this from a command prompt:
nslookup yoursite.wordpress.com ns1.wordpress.com” I needed a walkthrough for that because I don’t understand how to do that.

  • You would open your terminal app and type
    nslookup giantstepspress.wordpress.com ns1.wordpress.com

Here are the current results. You can see two IP addresses below:

    nslookup giantstepspress.wordpress.com ns1.wordpress.com
    Server: ns1.wordpress.com
    Address:	2a04:fa87:ffff::c6b5:7409#53

    giantstepspress.wordpress.com	canonical name = lb.wordpress.com.
    Name:	lb.wordpress.com
    Address: 192.0.78.13
    Name:	lb.wordpress.com
    Address: 192.0.78.12

Again, bear in mind, pointing to those IPs without mapping will just result in an error, so we do recommend the other method. Cheers!
