IP address to point to host

  • Unknown's avatar

This is what I was told to ask you all to help me with via Bluehost:

Sure, I see that the name server of the domain is pointing to WordPress.com server, so that you can contact WordPress.com server and tell them to update the A record of the domain to our server IP that is
    Host: @
    Points to : 162.241.252.107
    Type : A
Also the CNAME record of www domain points to
    Host: www
    Points to : beautifulsweethappy.com
    Type :CNAME
Because only domain name server providers has the access to update the name A record for the domain,
Once the IP address is updated, you can have the same website with theme to be working with domain name instead of temporary URL. Till then you can use the temporary URL of the domain.

/thanks for the help ~ I hope its clear and you understand my need :)

  • Hi there,

I’m not clear on what exactly you’re trying to do.

Are you trying to use your domain, beautifulsweethappy.com, that is registered with us, with a Bluehost site instead? If so, it will be much simpler to just update the domain’s name servers to point them to Bluehost instead. That will give Bluehost control over your domain’s DNS, and then they can make sure that everything is correctly configured on that end.

    https://en.support.wordpress.com/change-name-servers/

If you prefer to leave the name servers with us for now that’s also fine. In that case you can see how to add the A record here:

Point a Domain to an External IP Address

The CNAME is not necessary, as all domains hosted on WordPress.com automatically has a wildcard CNAME that handles the www to non-www redirect. I’m not sure if that will still hold if you point the domain to Bluehost using A records, though, but our system won’t allow you to manually add a CNAME specifically for the www subdomain, so if that doesn’t work there’s not much we can do about it.

And again that’s why it’s better to just point the name servers to Bluehost instead so they can control this from their end.

To be honest – I’m not sure either. I think maybe Bluehost also misunderstood me. :(

When I type in my domain http://www.beautifulsweethappy.com A wordpress website comes up. I don’t want this content shown on my website.

What I want to see is linked here – http://box5706.temp.domains/~beautlt5/

Bluehost told me I couldn’t change it with them. I’m not sure this helps clarify but thank you for your response.

  • @ beautifulsweethappy thanks for explaining. You’ll want to use these steps:

    Change a Domain’s Name Servers

and change your name servers to these:

    ns1.bluehost.com
    ns2.bluehost.com

Assuming you have already connected your domain on Bluehost’s side as well, that will take effect within a few hours (basically as soon as your computer and internet connection “forget” the old settings). However, I’d recommend making the change then contacting Bluehost again to verify. They will likely be able to see the updated settings right away, and correct any thing that might be wrong.
