Ip address, what to do to point a domain to the blogg and not loosing Google app

    Hi,
Been talking to my domain host, Binero Sweden, as I wish to Point my blogg http://sodersalongen.wordpress.com/ to the site http://www.salongen.net
that I own and have a webhotell at (again Binero).
But since I also have pointed google apps for business to http://www.salongen.net and they host our emails and so forth, I dont want to loose that as I redirect salongen.net to Point at the blogg.

I seem to be getting different information on how to do this best and most stable and the webhost suggests I ask you for IP adresses to Point to and to keep the google apps through them.

If so, could you please send me those proper IP addresses or tell me how togo about this in the best and correct way. Please, as detailed as possible since this part of webwork is not my cup of tea so to speak :)

    Super thanks
    Jeanette

WordPress.com actually has a built in feature to manage Google DNS for you in the background. To set it up, you just enter your Google verification code an you don’t have to worry about which records to add. Super simple! However, most web hosts don’t have anything like that setup for you, so in those cases you just need to update the records manually.

Since the records for Google Apps aren’t shown in your WordPress.com DNS tools directly, what you can do is simply look them up through Google Apps help and then use those in your new setup. I researched this for you and found the MX records needed to make Google Apps for Email work:

Those are the MX records (not an IP address) you should give your domain registrar (Binero) that are needed to make Google Apps email work.

I’m not sure why they’ve asked for an IP address. Make sure you’re clear with them about where you want to point the domain for web traffic (which could be an IP address in an A record, this depend on your web host) versus how you want to setup email records (MX records) for Google Apps.

Hopefully this help clear things up a little! It’s a lot to manage if you’re not familiar with how it all works and WordPress.com does a good job of trying to make it as easy as possible if you are setup here. Now that you’re switching, there are a lot of different moving parts from different services that you have to keep track of separately.

If you still have questions about how everything works, you can reply back here and I will do my best to guide you.
