IP Trackers no longer working

  • Unknown's avatar

I have two IP trackers. The viseable one is TraceMyIP.org

Up until 2 days ago it ran normal, gave me all the landing pages then all of a sudden all hits stated No Landing Page so I contacted them. Their response:

This appears because you have switched the wordpress to SSL mode, where it forwards your blog to secure protocol and URL appears as https://longshotsblues.wordpress.com as before it was http://longshotsblues.wordpress.com

You’d need to install an SSL tracking code if you need your page to be located at https://longshotsblues.wordpress.com

Alternatively, you can simply edit the code you have now and change the
    img src=”http://www.tracemyip.org/tracker/1211/4684NR-IPIB/324428834/17/njsUrl/

    TO

    img src=”//www.tracemyip.org/tracker/1211/4684NR-IPIB/324428834/17/njsUrl/

I didn’t change anything but obviously WordPress.com did.

Same problem occured with Stat Counter, they also gave a new code.

Thus far an upsetting outcome on both. No matter what page being viewed now they all say just https://longshotsblues.wordpress.com
    no specific page.

Example of what was: This was switched within 5 mins by WordPress from normal to not.

WordPress changes things and messes up things on our blogs. These IP Tracers/Trackers are just an example. I lost 36 hours of what pages were being viewed and from where.

Nice to get a heads up that affects everything on our blogs. TraceMyIP.org nor Stat Counter could have forseen the change, I’m only hoping that there trackers go back to normal and show me actual page hits.

    Very irritating.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

You got actual IP trackers working on a WordPress.com blog? Very interesting. Very interesting, thanks for that information.

BTW I flagged this for staff attention.

Had them since 2010 here. I’m sure thousands of others as well. Nice things to have. The ones I use have always had codes for WordPress.com

Actually now they have Thanfully returned to normal. So new codes given by both worked. I had no way of knowing any changes made would affect these trackers and they would have no way of knowing change was made from http to https. Guess it did make it enough to screw up data though.

The Jester actually moved his blog off WP.com because he couldn’t figure out how to get IP trackers working here.

That is strange because TraceMyIP.org & Stat Counter make it a point to list blog sites accordingly and give out codes specifically for WP.com. You just put them in the text part of widget and save. You can have them visable or not but different codes so you have to click onto which one you want from their site.

They also have different ones for tracemyip, different shapes, colors. You see mine blinking on my site.
