IPAD, mobile device view problem

    Dear Support,
I am a new wordpress user. We have started a blog using the “untitled” theme and have paid for the custom upgrade. Our blog is spitzersinindia.wordpress.com. We are having problems with our blog looking different on IPADS. We would like the IPAD view to be the same as the view on our computer where the blog posts are on the left and the instagram posts, categories, archives, etc are on the right.

One weird thing is that when we go to customize our appearance, the view of the blog looks the way we want it to. When we exit the customize function and go back to the live blog, on the IPAD, then everything is just one long scroll with the categories and instagram, etc all below the posts.

I’ve tried enabling and disabling the mobile theme in appearance but it did not affect this problem and in fact, I couldn’t tell really what that option is really doing. I read some of the forum comments and thought that the problem might be that our theme was not responsive, however the “untitled” theme says that it is responsive.

Please let us know what we are doing wrong or how we can fix this.

    Thank you! Thank you!
    Kate

  • Hi Kate – Your theme is responsive, so you don’t need the mobile theme to be enabled. However, your theme’s layout will automatically adjust to the best possible display for the screens of various devices. Because the iPad is a narrower screen, the widgets show below the posts, so the posts have enough width to be legible.

Let me know if you have further questions!

    Thanks for your reply, Eurello.
I’d like to be able to decide what the “best possible display” is for an Ipad, at the very least, and maybe phones as well. In my opinion, the display with the widgets to the right side of the posts is perfectly legible on my Ipad and way more functional than having the widgets at the end.

Is there any way to disable or modify this automatic adjustment to the “best possible display” ? Do I need to find a theme that isn’t responsive? They probably exist less and less and no doubt there are other issues with those.

I have viewed blogs on my Ipad that have the setup up i’m looking for with the widgets to the side, for example here are two: http://dorkdaddy.com and http://rottenindenmark.wordpress.com.

  • Hi Kate – Because you have the Custom Design upgrade, it is likely possible to adjust how your site appears on iPad and other mobile devices using CSS. For help with that, please post in the CSS Customization forum here:
    https://en.forums.wordpress.com/forum/css-customization

Those blogs are both using the mobile theme, Minileven, which you can enable by turning on the mobile theme in Appearance->Mobile. Those two bloggers have also chosen ‘no’ for all the other options on the Appearance->Mobile screen.
