iPad/iPhone on WordPress.
-
Hello, sorry to bother you all but I use WP on my iPad/iPhone and I noted that the snow is now falling on my site but I can’t see it on my Apple devices and don’t want to fire my laptop up just to check.
I remembered then, that WP works differently on iOS devices but I cannot remember where I go to ask questions for that reason.
Can I also ask why it is so different for iOS devices? I’m so used to using WP on my devices it’s rare I use my old laptop and therefore it feels a pain I have to go elsewhere for help when I get so much help on this particular forum.
Thank you for your help.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

If this document does not help https://apps.wordpress.org/support/ then here is the link for the iOs forum for the WordPress app http://ios.forums.wordpress.org/ so you can post there http://ios.forums.wordpress.org/forum/how-to-and-troubleshooting
If you don’t have a username account at WordPress.ORG click http://wordpress.org/support/ and register one on the top right-hand corner of the page that opens, so you can post to the support forums there and make our developers aware of the issue.

Does my username here not work there then? I ask because it’s asked me to put in my username for my site so I did and then it said it didn’t recognise me so I’m slightly confused…. am I too use my username here for there too or not, if not why doesn’t my email address and Password not work for my site over there when it asks me to sign in..?

WordPress.COM and WordPress.ORG are completely separate and have different username accounts, logins, features, run different versions of some themes with the same names, and have separate support documentation and separate support forums. Read the differences here http://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/
As the ios forums are at wordpress.ORG and not here at wordpress.COM, if you don’t have a username account at WordPress.ORG account, then click http://wordpress.org/support/ and register one on the top right-hand corner of the page that opens, https://wordpress.org/support/register.php so you can post to the support forums there.

Thank you very much, I’ll read all that you’ve written, it does appear I have a account there but albeit under a different email address but I’ve asked to reset the password but so far no link has been sent so will wait for that till I can proceed.
So WordPress.com is for the use of laptops only then and .org is for iOS only? Am I correct in that presumption?

Hi there,
Mobile browsers don’t support all the different types of code that desktop browsers do, and the type of code that makes the snow work doesn’t work on mobile browsers at present, so it’s not working on iOS or Android in the browsers I checked. There’s nothing we can do about that, save wait for those browsers to be updated to support the code.
-
That’s rather unfortunate isn’t it considering most people use tablet devises or iPhones etc nowadays rather than laptops or desktops.
-
It is unfortunate, but mobile devices just isn’t as powerful as full computers, and mobile browsers tend to lag behind in supporting the newest types of code. This will hopefully change as mobile devices keep becoming more powerful.
-
I didn’t realise mobile devises weren’t as powerful and their browsers lagged behind.
Yes hopefully because as I said it’s unfortunate especially since people who read the blogs and maybe not even a WP user so first time visitor don’t have the experience of seeing the snow fall which I think is a lovely thing to see and experience.

I love the snow as well. Living in the Southern Hemisphere and far from any mountains, it’s the only time I get to see it :)

I know how you feel Kokkeih! I live in the U.K but very rarely see the snow, so I love seeing it on the blog as I’ve never seen any other hosted site do such a thing and I think it’s also a treat for visitors to experience it as well :-)
You not a fan of snow then timethief :-) ?

When it come to the romanticizing of snow by those who don’t experience it much or at all I lol D.
I spent decades living in winters that were below 30 degrees Fahrenheit for more than 30 days in a row. Heating cost a fortune. Power outages were common as lines went down when poles snapped in the cold. Running a car likewise cost a fortune and required an electric plugin to the car. Using a dogsled came with many responsibilities for the dogs, their food, health, shelter and training. Shoveling snow was back torture as was splitting wood and kindling.
No, I don’t appreciate snow much at all. I’m happy to live on an island in the mildest temperature zone in Canada where snow is a rare occurrence and melts fast.

I see why you don’t like it now you’ve explained it… I have to confess that although I don’t see much snow, I do like it to be here and experience it ie be in it and take photos but then for it to go again without it causing any major problems!! So I do get why you don’t like the stuff after what you’ve described!!

Most folks do not know how hard it is to live in Canada’s north and how expensive it is.
