I believe the Andreas theme that we have is optimized for mobile devices. That should work the best.
-
I did a little research, and there is an actual “iPhone” optimized and designed theme and a plugin for self-hosted .org blogs although I didn’t read up on it.
-
I’ve had a total of 2 requests for iphone features. This is the second.
It’s not going to be that high on the list, sorry. -
OK I was just wondering…I recently got an Iphone and it would be great to run our church blog while on the run. I was surprised you only had two requests…I know there are some themes out there already but I prefer using WordPress.com
-
I’d also be highly interested in this feature! It seems that for self-hosted blogs the “Wphone” plugin does the trick (http://wphoneplugin.org/)
Only 2 requests? hmm…
-
Remember, this forum is only for blogs here, so no selfhosted ones.
Make sure you submit your request to staff as per the second post in the thread.
-
I have seen the wphone plugin…it looks pretty slick. Down the road it would be great to post to my blog as the inspiration hits me, so much gets lost by the end of the day when I finally make it home by 9:00. The whole interface on the wphone plugin looks great from the admin tools to being able to view the blog from the phone. Surely we can’t be the only mobile users who want this. Can we?
-
I doubt you are the only ones that want that feature no. The only 2 that submitted the request to staff, yes! If people find this feature is something they want they will let staff know about it over time, but it will take time ;)

What is it that prevents us from useing some of these homebrew options people write? Is it just testing it for stability or security? I know we have to be careful but what is the process for getting new added on? Do our programmers have to rewrite it to make sure? They do a great job, I’m just wondering cuz I don’t know.

The biggest difference between this host and other hosts that have wordpress is this uses WordPress Multi-User and not just normal wordpress. The service is shared and there are security issues that can happen with certain code and most plugins out there people write require more “permissions” than could be allowed here on wordpress.com. Javascript, flash, embeds, php, are just not allowed for security reasons. There are quite a few interesting reads in the FAQ on security in the FAQ. The plugin for the iPhone would require access and changes to every single template on the system and if staff decide this is something that benefits everyone they might do it.
Hope that helps explain some of why I think it might be slower than you are expecting! :)
