ipswichspy.wordpress.com – forwarding problem

  • Unknown's avatar

Domain forwarding is setup incorrectly. The Ipswich Spy WordPress site is still being spidered by Google and is forwarding stories from the old site to ipswichspy.com, to incorrect URL’s which assume the story has been migrated. This is not the case and the SEF URL’s do not correspond with the IpswichSpy.com SEF URL structure.

We want domain forwarding to capture ANY ipswichspy.wordpress.com URL to forward ONLY to the front page of our new website – http://ipswichspy.com

    Please advise,

    Regards,

    Ken

    ipswichspy.com Site Administrator.

We do not provide support for domain forwarding. We provide support for site redirect upgrades http://en.support.wordpress.com/site-redirect/ and domain mapping upgrades only. http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/

    I want ipswichspy.wordpress.com to forward to ipswichspy.com – Simple.

    That’s what we paid for.

Thanks for not helping, maybe you could be a little more helpful, please?

    Thank you

OK. Let me put it in a language with words you understand.

All URL requests to ipswichspy.wordpress.com should REDIRECT to ipswichspy.com. NOT http://www.ipswichspy.com just http://ipswichspy.com/index.php

    NOTHING MORE, NOTHING LESS.

    Thank you

Thanks so much for not making the error of assuming I don’t know what I am posting. In fact you did not mention purchasing any upgrade at all in your original post. Now you have done that so thank you.

    That’s what we paid for.

Let’s look under the hood and locate exactly what you did purchase please.

What do you find at these links?

    Dashboard >Store > My Upgrades
    http://ipswichspy.wordpress.com/wp-admin/paid-upgrades.php?page=my-upgrades

    Dashboard >Store > Billing History
    http://ipswichspy.wordpress.com/wp-admin/paid-upgrades.php?page=billing-history

    Hi there,

It sounds like there may be some confusion with how our Site Redirect product works. It is based off of the assumption that a user has migrated their site to a different domain, but that the site is whole on the receiving end.

Therefore if someone goes to olddomain.com/page1 then they will be sent to newdomain.com/page1.

    Same for olddomain.com/sub/sub/page –> newdomain.com/sub/sub/page

There is no way to change the redirect so that all requests for olddomain.com (olddomain.com/page1, olddomain.com/sub/sub/page, etc) funnels just directly in to newdomain.com. They will always go to the corresponding page.

I’m very sorry for the inconvenience. Let me know if you have any questions.

Please remove the redirect and change your DNS accordingly, your redirect is messing up our Goigle ranking with countless 404 errors almost blacklisting our new website.

    Hi Ken,

Your site is currently set to only bring up the site at ipswichspy.wordpress.com and the redirect is currently disabled; however I did want to bring up one other thing. I noticed that about a week ago you set your site to be fully private, which means it is inaccessible to anyone who has not been added by you to the site.

This means that the change which was made to your redirect is not going to be picked up by any search engine which crawls WordPress.com. If you would like to have this new setting seen publicly, you will need to change the visibility setting for your site by logging in to your Dashboard and then going to Settings >> Reading and setting it to be fully visible to the public.

The site has been set to private, as it has been taken down and no longer wish it to be spidered by search engines and have removed the redirect as it has caused 1000’s of 404 errors on our own server due to the restrictions you place on your redirection facility. These limitations and unclear documentation have severely affected ipswichspy.com and have meant that our new self-hosted website has been knocked back by Google and meant our site has a Google ranking of ZERO and relevant searches are way down on what they could’ve been if your site was clear on how your rubbish redirect facility limits forwarding options.

“Happiness Engineer”? Would you like to be a little more patronising and misleading to users of WP?
