Irfanview and posting pictures
-
Help, I am trying to post pictures on my new blog, and I keep getting the “does not meet the security requirements” page. I have resized, using Irfanview, but I have not gotten any luck. Any thoughts, because I have not been able to get anywhere with this.
-
That would suggest that you are might be saving them in a file format that wordpress does not allow for security reasons. Make sure when saving them that you save them in one of the allowed formats typically jpg, or png.
-
When I review the photos in the properties, they are saved as JPG. Should they be saved in a lower case jpg instead in the file type?
-
May also be the actual file name as well:
Can you please state what what exact file name is and the size in pixel and filesize as well?
-
Whether upper or lower case, it should not matter as far as I know. If you are using Windows, try opening and editing them in the picture viewer and saving as jpg’s and see if that works. I am not familiar with irfanview although I have run into a few image programs that have problems.

I think it was stated before hand that it’s usually because there’s no file extention or the file extention doesn’t match up with what the file actually is (ie a *.gif when it’s a *.jpg) but the file name has come into play in the past.

Hey guys, here is the name of the file. ” IrfanView BMP File ” (I guess it is saving it as a BMP)
I named it “cruiseamerica”.
One problem after resizing it is that it put it at 17 MB. I am still working around this thing and trying to work it so it fits into our blog. Thanks for the suggestions.

That’s the problem. Neither of those files have extentions and the first one has spaces.
Go please recheck that FAQ I linked to.

Thanks and I will let you know how it goes. I have a very basic knowledge of this stuff and I am learning as I go.

I’m not familiar with the features, but there should (might) be from the looks of things a way to “optimize” the images. You want to make the image smaller. For posting on a blog, I would suggest changing the width to about 450 pixels. The height should be linked and change accordingly to keep the aspect ratio the same and prevent distortion. When you save as jpg, it should give you the option of saving as “high”, “medium” or “low” resolution (sometimes they have a scale of 1 to 10 or something. Save them as medium or low, or somewhere around 5 or 3 and you should be alright.
Remember, I don’t have the program so I can’t know if what I’m telling you will work or not, but typically the program should have those abilities.

Good catch. I remember something like a 5 meg limit for an individual image but I never tried it.
-
BMPs are not supported. It’s something I remember, because I always have to do the conversion.
