Is a 'gift ideas' blog allowed on wordpress.com without my own domain?

If I post a link to an Amazon affiliate program on each and every post, and the posts are about gifts you can buy.

A blog that doesn’t have its own domain will be deleted by wordpress.com if it exists for the sole purpose of selling and advertising. That’s why I’m asking.

Actually, whether or not you have a custom domain makes no difference to the Terms of Service. All blogs here follow the exact same rules.

Could you give a bit more information on what exactly you want to post. Will your post be just an image of the gift with a link, or will it contain actual original content written by you that is more than just a product description? If the former, it will probably not be allowed, but I’ll tag this for staff to give you clarity.

Kokkieh, thanks for the information. This is very helpful.

I could write a funny post about a kid left on another planet as a prank by other kids during a school trip, and his life is saved because aliens think he’s one of them since he’s wearing funny sunglasses, and then post a link to the sunglasses.

I can write a post about how nice it is to be a geek, and then a link to a rotating Venus globe. That or a post about Mars future occupation with a rotating Mars globe.

    re: affiliate links

We can use text links only > http://en.support.wordpress.com/affiliate-links/

    1. WordPress.com allows bloggers to insert text affiliate links within post and page content to most third-party affiliate programs, provided they are not the primary content of the site in question.

    2. Image affiliate links in posts and pages and any banners, affiliate links in sidebar or footer widget areas, are still considered to be advertising and are not allowed on WordPress.com blogs.

Affiliate marketing banners and any and all advertising outside of WordAds at WordPress.com are not allowed. No blogger initiated advertising is allowed on WordPress.com blogs. The only advertising program at WordPress.com is called WordAds and it’s for blogs on their own domains.

    Hi booksonaspergersyndrome,

We want to foster an environment where you are able to create original content and if you wish, profit from that content with affiliate links.

With that being said, if your posts are simply an image and an affiliate link that would not be allowed.

Your idea about writing fiction is great! It allows you to both be creative as well as profit from affiliate links.

Once you have a couple of posts up please let us know and we’ll be able to provide a more concrete answer.
