  Depends. Is it an affiliate link? Is it a link to soemthing you are selling? If so, is it something you made?

  Let me give you a specific example. My blog will feature comedy and comedians. Monty Python just announced they are reuniting (yay!) and I would note that on the blog. I also have some Monty Python collectibles I am looking to part with in a downsizing effort and had planned to list them on ebay. Could I link to that item in my post?

  I also will have some self-created items (e-books and CDs or MP3s) — I would plan to sell these through Amazon. From what I have read on the forums it looks like I can link to my own creations. It also looks like I could link to an item on Amazon if I review it as long as the review is real original content consistent with my blog (not just an excuse for a link).

  I don’t expect that I would do either of these things often — but I want to make sure of the ground rules before deciding whether to use wordpress.com or go with self-hosted.
