is a theme site specific
-
I am confused by the apparent interchangeability of the words Site and Blog.
I have multiple sites on my Blog.
My Upgrade is Site Specific, I am told.
Is a Theme for the whole Blog or just the Site? The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there,
Sorry for the confusion! WordPress.com uses the words “site” or “blog” to refer to all the content you have at a particular address (blog posts, pages, etc.). For example, everything at http://anelephantcant.me/ is its own site, separate from your other sites at https://kelvingrave.wordpress.com/ and https://cavalairesurmer.wordpress.com/.
When you purchase a theme, that same theme is used for everything on your site. So if you purchase a theme for http://anelephantcant.me/ that theme is used for all of the blog posts and pages there.
Please let me know if you have any questions about that. :)

Hi Rachel, and thank you.
Sorry to be so pedantic, but I cannot afford to get this wrong.
If I change the theme on https://cavalairesurmer.wordpress.com/ it will NOT definitely NOT affect http://anelephantcant.me/ in any way?
Is that correct?
Cheers -
That’s right! Those are two completely separate sites, so changes to the theme on https://cavalairesurmer.wordpress.com/ won’t affect the theme on http://anelephantcant.me/.
Please let me know if I can do anything more to help with that. :)

Well, I do have another question.
But first let me thank you for your prompt and very clear response.
Okay, the reason I have to change the theme is because the Cavalaire site has a Page of photos, which is treated as an archive by the current theme, so looks awful.
Can you recommend a theme (free, please, this is still a trial) which does not treat Pages in this way?
Hemingway, perhaps? -
Hi there,
Do you mean your “Photographs” category page here:
https://cavalairesurmer.wordpress.com/category/photographs/
Category pages like that are considered by most themes to be an archive of the posts in your Photographs category, which is why you see that “Category Archives” header there. However, not all themes will include that same sort of header.
For example, the Hemingway Rewritten theme may indeed be a good alternative for you. You can see how category pages look in the theme’s demo — this is a link to the demo’s “Writing” category page:
https://hemingwayrewrittendemo.wordpress.com/category/writing/
If you’d like to consider other themes, as well, I’d recommend previewing your Photographs page in each theme you’re considering. That will give you the most accurate view of what that page will look like in that theme. :)
