Why is my site down???? With no warning, I’m told that my domain mapping isn’t working.

It looks like you’re referring to beaconbulletin.com is that right?
The personal plan on that site, which includes your mapping, expired on August 29th, 2018. This needs to be renewed each year in order for your domain mapping to continue working.
Separately, the domain registration needs to be renewed as well. But that bit is not with us. Looks like your domain was registered at GoDaddy.
To get things back up and running all you have to do is add the personal plan back on to your account. Do that here: https://wordpress.com/pricing/
Next, go to My Sites – Domains – Add – Map it
From there you’ll set up the domain mapping. The name servers look to be still pointed to WordPress.com so things should be back working quickly.
