Is it a Blog or Website
-
We have been told that WordPress.com is a blog website. We wanted to make changes to what we thought was a website but have been told that the functionality is restricted, so we need to move to WordPress.org. Is this true if so can the contents of our WordPress.com be transferred to WordPress.org. would any of this affect the working functionality of what we currently have. Thanks Karen Carthy

At WordPress.com, as everywhere else, you can build a Blog or a Website. What WordPress.com plan do you have? A Starter plan or a Pro plan? The Pro plan is perhaps superior to running your own version of .org elsewhere. A Pro plan has pretty much everything and access to Livechat support with WordPress.com staff.

Hi it’s a business plan – just asking WordPress chat and being told the website doesn’t indicate it’s a blog. That we can change the the posts drop down menu to the select option if we don’t want a posts page designated. Explained an IT firm has said it’s limited we a website and should have built it with WordPress.org rather than com?

If you’ve had a WordPress.com Business plan then you’ve already got all the features you’d have with a .org site without any of the negatives. I’m sure IT firms will recommend .org installations as they can earn fees fixing things if and when they go wrong. With a site here at WordPress.com backup and security etc etc is included in the price. (Plus at renewal time you could perhaps move from a Business plan to a Pro plan and save money without losing any features).
