    Hi there,

    That is completely up to you and how you manage your brand. A custom domain has a more personalised feel to it and in most cases, it’s easy to remember and type mysite.com compared to mysite.wordpress.com (that’s just an example).

    It’s not a requirement, however on WordPress.com getting a custom domain means you are upgrading from a free plan and this will allow you access to more features, themes, and customer service support.

    It’s a personal choice and I think if you have the budget, you would enjoy having a custom domain.

    Having your own custom domain definitely has some benefits. It provides a large amount of legitimacy, especially if you have a website for a business. And it helps you establish your brand online.

    Additionally you can use your domain extension (.com, .org, .biz, etc) to give an indication what type of business you have.

    Search engines also rank sites with their own custom domain higher than sites that have a free subdomain on a hosting service, like our free WordPress.com addresses. Though when it comes to search engines your content matters much more than your domain.
