Is it normal to keep getting error messages when you try to share your blog?

Is it normal to receive error messages when you first purchase your blog name? And for it to still not be at the top and for your old blog name to still be visible? And if so for how long?

I understand that it says it may be some time before it is visible in a public search engine but I did not expect someone I shared a direct link with to have issues visiting this site as well.She told me she got the error message: ‘ site cannot be reached ‘. I’m wondering if this is customary as well ? Similar to the public search thing not being available for a little while after purchase, or is this a completely separate issue that needs to be addressed separately, This is all new to me. Thanks

Appreciate you getting in touch! Just to clarify, although you can purchase a domain without a plan, having it as your primary domain requires a paid plan. Without a paid plan, your domain will redirect to your free *.wordpress.com URL. Since you’re just getting started out, the Starter plan is a great place to start by giving you the ability to use a custom domain, an ad-free experience for your visitors, and email support!
Once you have a paid plan in place, you can make your new domain the primary one by following the steps outlined here: https://wordpress.com/support/domains/set-a-primary-address/
