Is it not possible with the free account to change your time zone?

My time zone is London, but my General Settings page does not include a way to change it. Is that because I have the free version? Or is there another way to access the time zone to change it?

To clarify, I need to change the time zone from Lonon to U.S. Central time. I have read all about how to do it at Customer support using the general settings window , but my General Settings window does not have those options shown in it.

Yes, you can change your time zone on a free blog. If you go to settings __> general the fourth option down is Timezone. You just change it to the zone you want.

Thanks, metan1, much appreciate your time. But that’s the problem: when I go to my Settings window (from the drop down menu on my icon, upper right), it does not contain the time-zone option. The items listed you can set are only (top to bottom): user name, e-mail, web address, interface language, and then phone number for account recovery. Is there some other “settings” page, and how do you find it, if you don’t mind writing again?

You are in your account settings, not in the settings for the site itself. You have to be in the dashboard for the individual site, which for the site you referenced would be at:
http://gourmetcomposer.wordpress.com/wp-admin/options-general.php
