Is it ok to have no pages?

When I set up my blog I deleted the default page because I didn’t need it. It now says I have no pages. When looking at the google/yahoo/bing webmaster stats its also says no pages.

Is this a problem? Should I creat a ‘home’ page for my blog?

Thankyou and so sorry if this has been answered before but I did a search and read the support site.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

The home page for your blog is http://econviews.wordpress.com/ and by default it will display your posts on it in reverse chronological order, unless you choose to create another static page and change it to that page here > Settings > Reading

    Front page displays
    Your latest posts

    A static page (select below)
    * Front page: (select from dropdown menu)
    * Posts page: (select from dropdown menu)

    See here > http://en.support.wordpress.com/pages/front-page/

What you deleted was probably the “Hello word” post and that produces a 404 (page not found) that will disappear once new posts are published. http://en.support.wordpress.com/not-found/

Thankyou. So there is no drawbacks to having no pages?

Not at all. Blogs are post based structures that provide for and encourage interactive communication. Websites are page based structures that operate as a one-way noticeboards. A WordPress blog can either be structured as a page based website or its conventional post based structure can be retained. Setting a static front page is a traffic killer. However, for aesthetic reasons many people decide that restructuring their blogs to become page based like websites is the way they want to go.

Would I ever set a static front page on my own blogs and restructure them to become page based? Hell no! Blogs are designed to be post based structures and posts have by far more Google juice than pages have. See here as I explain all the different characteristics of pages and posts and the SEO impact or choosing to restructure blogs from being post based to page based structures.

That being said I do recommend having an About page. Your About page is the most effective advertising spot for you as a blogger and for your blogs too. Accept the fact that people want to know a bit about who you are and that they are not likely to be impressed by a one liner. Put some effort into creating a brief biographical statement for use on your About page and on profile pages in other social media sites as well.

    (2) Write concise and informative blog description(s) for your About page
Blog descriptions are extremely important. They inform readers what your purpose for the blog is, what your blogging goals are, and what they can expect to find in the content. Put some effort into creating a concise, appealing description of your blog, your brand and your focus.

Thankyou for such an informative reply! I didn’t want to create new pages but was worried by the ‘no pages’ on all the wemaster tools. Thankyou again.
