Is it possible?

I’m struggling to understand how the posting process works.
For instance, on my blog homepage, I used Visual Editor to create three columns.
What I’d like to be able to do is to add a post to each of the three columns, tagging each one with a specific category. Then when I add a new post , I’d like the tool to push the existing post to the correct category (so it can be found via the main menu, which I’ve set up).
This way, the homepage always shows my three most recent posts, but when they ‘cycle-out’, they are easily found by using the menu to go to the page representing that category.
Does that make sense?
Is it possible?
Thanks,
Rick
