Is it possible for bloggers to move their followers or do staff have to do it?
-
I would like to move followers to my self-hosted blog at…
http://www.mightyandwonderfulforces.com/mightyblog(yep… looooong)
Also, do NEW followers at my wordpress.com blog then continue to migrate?
Thanks,
ChristopherThe blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Provided you install and active the Jetpack plugin, Staff can do this for you. I tagged this thread for their assistance. Please subscribe to it so you are notified when they respond.

Yep, I have jetpack installed and activated.
I’m still a bit confused about the migration but I’ll continue to read up!

Christopher, can you confirm for me that you want to move the followers/subscribers from mightyandwonderfulforces.wordpress.com/ to mightyandwonderfulforces.com/mightyblog ?
-
Yes, that’s correct. :-)
Forgive me, I’m quite new at this and so I’m doing a bit of a “leap of faith” here, before I know all the ins and outs.
I have only a few followers at the moment so the more important thing for me to understand, firstly, is there a permanent mechanism for increasing followers from the wordpress.com universe to the self-hosted universe?
Secondly, if do not delete the wordpress.com blog, and I add posts to the self-hosted blog, does the wordpress.com universe “see” my new posts? Or is this a matter of a simple, one time migration?
If I’m not “gettin’ it” and things are going over my head, here, it would be nice to be pointed to info that helps me understand the two universes and how they interact (through Jetpack?). :-)
Thanks for any help and hints.
Warm Regards,

Christopher, I have moved your followers over to mightyandwonderfulforces.com/mightyblog as requested.
Make sure you have the Blog Subscriptions widget in your sidebar or footer widget area so that people can subscribe to your site for email notifications on new posts. Also, I would suggest setting up sharing at settings > sharing in your dashboard so that people can share your posts to the social networks. This can help bring in new readers and followers.
You will not have a follow button on your self-hosted site like you do did when hosted at WordPress.com and I have no idea if that is part of the future plans for Jetpack or not. I’ll ask though and post back here.
No, you do not have to delete the WordPress.com site, but I do suggest you set the site to private at settings > reading under “Site Visibility.” That way the search engines will not see duplicate content between the two and possibly discount your search engine ranking. I also suggest not deleting it just in case you would want to reuse it in the future. If you delete it, you cannot get that URL back again.
Jetpack has brought many of the unique features of WordPress.com to self-hosted sites, and for people that have migrated from here to self-hosted, it gives them a familiarity with things and makes it easier.
I hope that helps.
