Is it possible for me to do this?
-
Long story, but I migrated from WP.com to self hosted and it has not worked out at all. Is it possible for me to:
1. Migrate all my followers back from the self hosted site, back to my http://geoffandjennistravels.wordpress.com site?
2. Continue to use my http://geoffandjennistravels.wordpress.com site but point this somehow to http://www.avidwanderers.com/ ?
3. Rename http://geoffandjennistravels.wordpress.com to http://avidwanderers.com (or is this not possible because I already own the domain). For info, I host avidwanderers.com in Network Solutions, but right now the Name Servers are pointing over to SiteGround… if I can point the Name Servers to my wordpress site that would be great :-)
Thank you in advance for any help.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Howdy-do!
1. Migrate all my followers back from the self hosted site, back to my http://geoffandjennistravels.wordpress.com site?
You can do this! You will need the Jetpack plugin installed on the avidwanderers.com site. The link to do this is:
https://wordpress.com/jetpack/connect/installThen follow the instructions in the below link. In that link in the first paragraph is another link to the tool you will need:
https://jetpack.com/support/subscriptions/transferring-followers/2. Continue to use my http://geoffandjennistravels.wordpress.com site but point this somehow to http://www.avidwanderers.com/ ?
3. Rename http://geoffandjennistravels.wordpress.com to http://avidwanderers.com (or is this not possible because I already own the domain).if I can point the Name Servers to my wordpress site that would be great :-)
It looks like you have already done this!

Let me amend the first part of my reply. Jetpack needs to be installed on the site not hosted here at WordPress.Com

I have made some progress Dave, but I am stuck on transferring my followers back :-(
Jetpack is installed, but unfortunately I don’t have the option to transfer followers back to WP.com – any ideas why?
Here’s what I have managed to do so far:
1. Renamed http://geoffandjennistravels.wordpress.com/ to http://avidwanderers.wordpress.com/
2. Set a redirect from the first site to the second site
3. Purchased a premium subscription from WP.com and set my name servers in Network Solutions to the WP.com name servers (waiting for that to propogate). What you see right now at http://www.avidwanderers.com/ is the site at SiteGround.com which I will be taking down.
I cannot take the SiteGround site down until I have migrated my followers back to http://avidwanderers.wordpress.com/ site though.
Any ideas on how to resolve this would be very much appreciated.
Thank you!
Jennifer
I also purchased
-
the WP.com redirect (mentioned in 2. above) and that is working immediately… so just need to get the followers migrated… Thanks!

I decided to deactivate Jetpack and reactivate it to see if that would work.
Now I get the following error when I try to reactivate Jetpack:
“Error Details: The Jetpack server encountered the following client error: Authorization header was malformed.”
Any help appreciated…

Hi Jennifer
It’s no fun when things decide to stop working. You have made wonderful progress so far though – EXCELLENT!!For help with Jetpack, you will need to ask them, because we don’t offer support for it. Before you do, there are some troubleshooting tips that are recommended:
https://jetpack.com/support/getting-started-with-jetpack/troubleshooting-tips/The contact them link is:
https://jetpack.com/contact-support/?rel=supportJetpack will need to be working before the followers can be migrated.
I am adding a tag to this conversation. Modlook will get a real WordPress person involved. They can help with the follower migration.
Again, i am impressed with all you have done so far!

I am so done with SiteGround… :-( I’ve finally given up and manually emailed all my followers asking them to sign up again… at least I am up and running on the new site…
One final question… my http://www.avidwanderers.com/ address now points to http://avidwanderers.wordpress.com/ – is there a way I can get the “.wordpress.com” piece removed so my site points to wordpress but without the .wordpress suffix?
Thanks again!

Hi Jennifer
is there a way I can get the “.wordpress.com” piece removed so my site points to wordpress but without the .wordpress suffix?
That’s easy! You already did it! When you pointed the Name Servers to WordPress.Com, you effectively removed the .wordpress part.
I am sorry the followers transfer did not work out for you. If we can help you with anything else, please do ask!

Actually, that’s not what I see… if I go to http://www.avidwanderers.com/ it now diverts to http://avidwanderers.wordpress.com/ – that’s the opposite of what I wanted :-(
Did I do something wrong?
Thanks!
