Is it possible for my Home page to be a "non-blog page"?

  • Unknown's avatar

I have questions regarding the following:

    1. I do not want to force my users to login to WordPress just to reply to a blog post. How do I disable that login function and allow anyone to reply to any post found on my blog?

    2. Is it possible to have a “non blog” page on my site. I want my Home page to be a standard HTML page and the About page to be the blog. I’m wondering if I have to buy the CSS upgrade for $30 to be granted that freedom. Please let me know.

    3. If having my own custom standard HTML page is possible (as I asked in question 2), can I add a PHP form and/or paypal button to my Home page?

    4. Is it possible for me to have a sub nav?

Visitors to your site do not need to log in to leave a comment. If they’re already logged into their WordPress.com account, then they’ll need to click on the option to comment as a “Guest” on your blog. If they’re not logged in, they will automatically have the option to comment as a guest.

Yes, you can add a static home page to your blog by following this guide:

    3. If having my own custom standard HTML page is possible (as I asked in question 2), can I add a PHP form and/or paypal button to my Home page?

You can’t add custom PHP to your site, but you can add a PayPal button and a custom contact form:

    http://en.support.wordpress.com/contact-form

    4. Is it possible for me to have a sub nab?

Yes, you can create sub-menus by following these instructions:

In regards to my first question, if you surf to my wenext.wordpress.com you will see that you DO in fact have to sign in, in order to reply. How do i remove that?

Also on my home page, the “Leave Reply” field is unnecessary and takes away from the aesthetics of the page. How do I remove that field?

Your readers aren’t asked to sign in, but they do have to provide a name and email address. Every comment must have a name and email address associated with it.

You’ll want to disable the comments on this page:

How do I edit the footer of my template? Do I need to purchase the CSS upgrade in order to do that?

  • Unknown's avatar

It’s not possible to edit your theme’s footer, but you can change its appearance using the Custom Design upgrade and a little CSS.

To learn more about the upgrade, see here:

    Hello,

I’m curious as to why I do not have the “upgrade” option at the bottom of my control panel under “settings”. I was told that through the upgrade option I can implement plugins such as an image slider to my blog.

    Please help, Thank you.

You can purchase an upgrade via your Store page from the WordPress.com Dashboard.

However, plugins are not allowed for sites hosted on WordPress.com. This means that even if you purchase an upgrade, your site is still hosted here on WordPress.com.

If you need to use plugins, you may prefer a self-hosted installation of WordPress. You can learn more about the difference here:

Can anyone tell me why my images have borders around them?

  • You theme applies borders to all post images.

If you have a Custom Design upgrade, you can change this behavior via CSS.

I’ve created some forms on my contact pages. Why are the fields auto filled? How do I remove that feature?

  • The fields are auto-filled whenever a logged in WordPress.com users visits, as a courtesy to that user.

Non-logged in users will see blank fields, and logged in users will only see their info auto-filled.
