Is it possible renew a custom domain without getting a plan upgrade?

    Hello. My basic plan has expired and I need to renew my custom ‘.net’ domain. Do I need to purchase a basic plan upgrade at $5/month before I can renew my ‘.net’ domain with WordPress?
    Apologies if this is a stupid question but I’m not clear on this.

    Domain Registrations are offered as part of our WordPress.com plans. You will need to have an active plan on your site in order to register a domain.
