Is it possible to add captions with borders to ted.com videos and "timed" YT vid
-
Hello,
Thanks to you I already know how to add captions with borders to normal youtube videos but I have problems with adding them to youtube starting at a given time. I don’t know if it’s not suppoorted by WordPress or if I need a different code for this. I also would like to know if it’s possible to add such captions with borders to ted.com videos. I had no luck so far with them. Thanks for any help. Best wishes.

Solution had been given here:

Applies no matter what the video. -
Surprisingly the ted.com one worked.
But the youtube video starting from a certain point doesn’t. It just displays as a caption, a border and the random link I entered http://youtu.be/h74fE39a8i4?t=20s
It could be it’s not the right link, so which one is? I tried to tinker with the http/www variants but not surprisingly it doesn’t work either. -
That’s not the right way to make a YT video start from a certain point. See here:

I also tried the longer “time stamped” link but it doesn’t work either.
Adding [] brackets before and after the long link doen’t work too.
Adding such brackets to a short link with a “time stamp” doesn’t work as well.BUT I almost got it. I just added the word “youtube” after the first bracket and both links work. Just the width of the border is too small but I may figure it out somehow.
THIS is the problem. I didn’t think adding the name of the site would matter.
Thanks for helping me figure it out. Otherwise I’d probably give up after my last failure.

Sorry, you seem to be right. I finally got the video to start at a certain point. I just thought it might not work because the timer is howing 0:00. It changed only after I cliked the video.

You’re welcome.
The width of the frame (as well as the width of the video) is adjustable. -
Ok, I got everything right. .
I have the border AND the caption AND the link with the starting point AND the changed size of the video.
I picked a suggested size on the video page, added +11 px to make the border symmetric. Here’s an example if any other person would like to repeat it
<div class=”wp-caption aligncenter” style=”width:431px;”>[youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h74fE39a8i4&NR=1&w=420&h=315&start=150%5D<p class=”wp-caption-text”>Tests</p></div>
(I don’t know what this NR=1 is, it was added after I updated the post but it looks okay with it and seems to work).
Thank you very much for your help.

If one copies your example it won’t work, because the URL has turned into a live link, and the closing bracket of the shortcode has changed into the equivalent URL character code. To display code correctly here, you need to enclose it in backticks (see below reply field).
-
*<div class=”wp-caption aligncenter” style=”width:431px;”>[youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h74fE39a8i4&NR=1&w=420&h=315&start=150%5D<p class=”wp-caption-text”>Tests</p></div>*
Like this?
Thanks for pointing that out. -
‘<div class=”wp-caption aligncenter” style=”width:431px;”>[youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h74fE39a8i4&NR=1&w=420&h=315&start=150%5D<p class=”wp-caption-text”>Tests</p></div>’
Sorry, more like this?
-
<div class="wp-caption aligncenter" style="width:431px;">[youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h74fE39a8i4&NR=1&w=420&h=315&start=150]<p class="wp-caption-text">Tests</p></div>Ugh, maybe this time.

I’d like the admins to delete my previous two failed attempts to add backticks to the code.
