Is it possible to add Custom Design with a self-hosted site

  I am using Swatch as my theme along withe the Woo commerce plug-in. I need to make some changes to the custom CSS but not really sure how to do that without messing up my site. I’d like to add on the Custom Design functionality but it is not available in my Appearance menu under custom design as stated elsewhere on WordPress. Is it possible to add Custom Design with a self-hosted site?

  Means:

  PS – “Custom Design++” is built into WordPress.ORG installs – along with the ability to use the “Custom Design++” option to completely crash your site.

  The site you are asking about does not seem to be hosted on WordPress.COM so you need to make friends over at WordPress.ORG the keepers of the software you are using.

  The plugin we use on WordPress.com to provide the Custom CSS part of the Custom Design upgrade is available for WordPress.org installs.

  Wait! Does this mean the CSS changes put in through that plugin will NOT be overwritten by theme upgrades?

  Yes, because the plugin stores them in a Custom Post Type.

  Wow! That is way cool for sites that just need a few minor CSS tweaks. Much better than doing a child theme.

  Thanks Westi – I will give this a try. As a newbi -I’m looking for all the tools I can get to simplify my site development.

  BTW – Swatch is a free theme offered by Woo which is why you cannot find it in the WP theme offerings. It works pretty well with WooCommerce (so far).

  Westi – I have installed the plugin and it looks like it will be very helpful for my Swatch theme. However, Woo Commerce has it’s own style sheet that controls the catalog and product listings. This is where I want to make my customizations. How do I use Safecss to edit the woo commerce style sheet?
