Is it possible to add two authors widgets to your theme?

    Hi there

does anyone know whether it is possible to add more than one authors widget to your theme? I’d like to add one for “Curators” and one for “Conservators”, at the moment I have put them together under “Curators & Conservators”. I just wondered how it works in practice when you come to invite them to contribute – can you specify beforehand which one of the authors widgets they will sit under?

    Thanks for your help

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

You can add the Authors widget as many times as you like, but it doesn’t have an option for showing or hiding specific authors.
If you only want two lists of links to the authors pages, you can use two Text widgets (and enter the appropriate coding), or two Links widgets (after you create the Links in Links > Add New), or two Custom Menu widgets (after you create the menus in Appearance > Menus).

Thanks for the info justpi, useful to know.

The authors will be the people posting to the home page (blog). I don’t want to link to pages outside the blog, just to be able to click the name of the author and see all blog posts by that author. I think I may have to suffice with one author widget for both author types.

Yes I understood what you want; when I wrote “authors pages” I meant pages like this one:
    http://firstworldwarthackray.wordpress.com/author/brigid632/
As I said, you can create lists of links to these pages by using two TWs or two LWs or two CMWs. If you need more details on any of these methods, let me know.

I was given the link to this blogger blog as an example: http://secretlivesofobjects.blogspot.co.uk

sorry my mistake. yes, I would like to use one of these methods, thanks. which do you recommend? I don’t have the names of the other authors at the moment, the client will need to add these at a later point.

If you’re not familiar with coding, Text widgets will be more difficult to update.
If you want the lists in alphabetical order, use the Links method; if you want a different order, use the Custom Menu method.

    Hi justpi,

I think that the links method would be best. I’ve had a go at adding a couple of links using the authors as the title, I’ve included Brigid and myself to see how it works. I have included categories for Curators and Conservators putting Brigid under Curators and myself as a Conservator. I used the web page as the url. How would I go about adding other authors, and then making sure that for any blogs they posted a click on the link to their name would just display their blog posts? I realise I probably need to revisit the links I have created…

    Thanks for your help.

Yes, you got everything right except the URLs. You must use the URL of each author’s archive page, for example the one I pasted above:
    http://firstworldwarthackray.wordpress.com/author/brigid632/
As you see, the form of these URLs is:
    BLOG URL/author/USERNAME
