Is it possible to aggregate blogs on the main page?

Hello,
If I wanted to invite other similarly themed blogs to be a part of a blog feed, is there an automatic way to aggregate those blogs on the main page of a WordPress.com blog (not the sidebar)?
The way I’ve seen it done elsewhere is the parent blog gets automatically updated when a child blog publishes a new post. It appears on the parent blog as the post title, first sentence or two of the post, and the link to the blog.
