Is it possible to change appearance of the email message my followers receive?

  I am not happy with the appearance of the emails my followers receive of my posts. Is the email layout dependent on my theme? How can I make changes. For example, I do not like the gray bar across the top. Depending on what email service they use they may or may not see the picture. The videos do not indicate they are videos with the triangle in mid screen. Leaving a comment is confusing. In tiny font – “Respond to this post by replying above this line” when there is no line.
  I’ve been working on the blog for years and have been disappointed. I realize I am targeting a narrow target audience, but I need your help to make it as appealing as possible.
