Is it possible to change the domain name of our blog?

    We recently decided to regionalise our blog and make it relevant to South East Europe, not just Greece. Would it be possible to change the domain name to cambridgeesolsoutheasteurope.wordpress.com from the current cambridgeesolgreece.wordpress.com?

    To change a blog URL ending in wordpress.com, please follow these steps. Another alternative is to purchase a custom domain name to take “wordpress” out of the domain altogether.

    Hi Karim,

    Thank you very much for your guidance, I followed the procedure and it was very helpful.

    I must admit though that, possibly due to my lack of knowledge, I am left with one query: do I need to inform all our followrs of the change in the domain name?

    I am asking this for this reason:
    Our blog domain, as initially chosen during the blog’s creation, was cambridgeesolgreece. Any follower who had saved the blog in the Favorites section of their search engine, saved this domain. After I changed the domain to cambridgeesolsoutheasteurope, I noticed that:
    a) our blog domain did change
    b) the previous domain (the one I wanted to get rid of) still stayed around but as a new blog in itself. This means that any follower who has saved our blog in his Favorites will not be able to visit the blog they were familiar with and has now got a new domain name but will nter a new blog in itself.

    Am I right?

    It looks like you did not check the option to delete cambridgeesolgreece.wordpress.com when changing your blog address. Is this right?

    If so, then that is why you’re still seeing cambridgeesolgreece.wordpress.com in your Dashboard. Similarly, you will need to let your subscribers know that you’ve switched URLs.

    If you would like to automatically redirect visitors to cambridgeesolgreece.wordpress.co to your new blog URL, you can do so with the site-redirect upgrade:
    http://en.support.wordpress.com/upgrades/site-redirect/

    You are right, no I didn’t delete it out of inexperience fear.

    Thank you for the tip though, we will let our subscribers know of the change in URLs.
