Is it possible to change the photo that appears on a new blog post "preview?"

Hopefully you get what I’m saying. It seems like one photo from the post is randomly chosen to be displayed on the “preview” thing of your blog.

The “preview” I’m talking about is when you click stats > blog posts > which then shows a list of all the posts you’ve published, and these all have a pic displayed. Any way to choose which pic this is?

    Thanks in advance.

  • Hi there. If you have a featured image set for your post that should be used as the post thumbnail. You can assign a featured image from inside the post editor. https://en.support.wordpress.com/featured-images/

The featured image does not have to be one of the images actually in your post, but must be uploaded to your media library. Also note that some themes display the featured image on the home page, or as a custom header for the specific post. You can check your theme’s documentation to see how it will work for you. The featured image also appears in the Reader along with your post preview.

That sounds excellent. After all, I suspect good visuals initially lure in more people than good writing. I will try this.

    Thanks!

I can’t seem to find it. Do you know if this definitely a free standard feature? Wonder if it’s possible to do with the Koi theme.

It says something about having to be in “publish” mode to get to the page attributes section which is where I can then apparently select the picture. Wow, should have known it wouldn’t be as easy as I thought. This is wordpress after all. lol

  • It would appear that your theme doesn’t support featured images. See the theme features listed to the right here: https://wordpress.com/themes/koi/

I’ll just upload the theme to my test blog to make sure for you. BRB

The featured image has it’s own module in the post editor. It’s not under the page attributes.

However, that’s a moot point as your theme definitely doesn’t support featured images. I also don’t see the option in the post editor with the Koi theme, while I do on my regular blog using another theme.

If you want to use featured images you’ll need to switch to a theme that does support them. Here you can find all the themes that will allow you to assign featured images: http://theme.wordpress.com/themes/features/featured-images/

Else, you’ll have to live with the website picking any random image for your post thumbnail.

Seems to work actually. I found the feature imagine option on the new look publisher. Strange, but good.

Thanks for your help anyway man. :)

  • I didn’t even think to check in the new editor as I never use it. It is strange that it will allow you to assign a featured image if the theme doesn’t support it. For once a bug that actually adds a feature to the site :-D

But I’m glad it’s working for you now.
