is it possible to do this with flickr?

    hallo all,

new to blogging and looking forward to learning lots.

so im trying to find an easy way to post pictures on my blog from flickr or google picassa.

is there any sort of application that can post a SELECTION of photos from flickr into a single blog entry?

i upload my photos to flickr automatically, and from flickr it would be great to be able to choose a selection of photos and have that pop out as a blog.

and then i could just go in and edit with text in wordpress or something.

if this is not doable with wordpress.com is this possible with wordpress.org plugins?

    thanks!

I use slide.com and slideshare.net when I want to upload a series of photographs that I want my students to scroll through.
They are obviously different sites than flickr. But they are perfect for showing a selection of photos.
Slideshare.net is ideal for powerpoint presentations. I’ve taken class project photos and created powerpoint presentations and uploaded them.
Both sites work nicely with wordpress.com sites.

There’s nothing at WP.com that will do this automatically. You can put as many images as you want in your post, but you have to do them one at a time.

You can create a mosiac in flickr of multiple photos and then just blog that.

    Yes and no.

Widgets are your answer. Kind of. In a way, but not really.

Check my site http://cyber5.wordpress.com and over on the right you will see what I mean. The last photos I uploaded are plainly visible using the Flickr widget. Above that, is an RSS feed of a specific group of photos (a flickr set) and the photos are not visible, just the titles of the photos – which link back to flickr when clicked.

    Why?

I don’t know. I have been pulling my hair out over this nightmare for weeks now. Seems the RSS feeds are of different formats, and the set photos do not get interpreted by WP correctly. It is not just a WP problem, I have the same problem with the feeds when trying to extract them into my own web development elsewhere. However, if you pull that feed with something like the flock browser, or a feed reader directly – they show up no problem. I don’t know why…yet…but I am working on it.

In the meantime, you are stuck with the latest uploads, or the mosaic workaround mentioned above.

@cyber5-Quite simply, images don’t come through in RSS feeds here on WordPress.com, not flickr, not bookthing, not. No need to pull your hair out.

@dzplay- there’s a mosaic maker at fd’s Flickr toys/big huge labs that not only makes the mosaic, but makes links to all the images. The resulting mosaic is usually huge, so keep that in mind. NAYY http://bighugelabs.com/flickr/

Trying again-that should have been “goodreads” and “librarything”.

    @JustJennifer:

Thanks for the quick answer! I have gotten over the fact that they don’t work natively at WP. That’s ok, I guess. I asked this question to support here, and they pointed me to the “tag” workaround found here…
    http://faq.wordpress.com/2006/12/24/using-the-flickr-widget/

Works nicely, unless you want both a certain group of photos AND the latest photos…so I requested that we be allowed two flickr widgets! Of course, that is slightly different than a group of photos embedded into a blog, but along a similar vein.

As for pulling my hair out, it wasn’t over the WP implementation, but as I mentioned above – it doesn’t quite work right in my own web development efforts. I hate it when subtle nuances in stuff are so problematic.
