Is it possible to flip the Category and Date placements in Illustratr?
-
I’m currently using the Illustratr template as my theme. I host a daily writing prompts blog where a photo is posted each day and people have to contribute a one sentence story to go with the day’s photo. Currently, in the Illustratr theme (I don’t think it did this in the Suits theme), the category is posting directly under the photo’s title sentence, and the date is posting very small below the photo. Because this is a daily thing, I would like to flip that so that the category appears in the line below the photo and the date appears under the title. Is this possible?
Also, in the Suits theme, when you clicked on the photo, it took you to that particular post’s page. Now it takes you to an enlarged version of the photo. Is there any way to redirect the URL so that when people click on the photo it will take them to “today’s” page?
Thanks. (And I hope this was clear – it’s late and I’m sleepy and could very well be rambling). :-) Thank you!
Lisa

This should be possible by adding CSS code to your theme, though you’ll need the custom design upgrade to do that. You can post your question in the CSS customisation forum for info on what code will be needed to make this change: https://en.forums.wordpress.com/forum/css-customization#postform
See here for more info on purchasing the custom design upgrade:

In the post editor, click on the image and then on the pencil icon that appears. In the pop-up window you can set where the image should link to. It sounds like currently it’s linking to the media file itself. You can also have it link to the image attachment page, a custom URL (where you can then insert the post URL you want to use), or to not link at all.

My connection is rubbish today, so I can’t load your site to see how large the image is, but be careful of uploading full resolution images – they can eat through your media storage in no time. Your theme’s support doc will tell you the maximum width in which it can display images and the required width for featured images. It varies between 500 and 1200 pixels depending on theme (your theme should be at the wider end of the scale as it’s specifically designed for photography). Uploading any images wider than that is a waste of space, so make sure you resize your images before uploading them or use a tool like http://www.jpegmini.com/ to trim down the file size. http://en.support.wordpress.com/media/image-optimization/

Thanks so much for all the advice, Kokkleh! I actually have been sizing my pictures down to “Medium,” but this particular template – as you said – is designed for photography.
I’ll purchase the CSS package this weekend and work on it. THANKS!

Just to be clear, resizing them after uploading does not affect the file size. You have to resize them before you add them to your media library.
I’m glad I could help. Remember to post directly in the CSS customazation forum for help with CSS code. I gave you the link to the forum above.

I just checked the file sizes of the past week’s photos – they’re all in the 200kb range. Is that too large?

It’s larger than the images I upload, but I don’t focus on photography and I think my theme displays photos smaller than yours, so I upload smaller images. In other words, that sounds like a perfectly reasonable file size to me. I’ve come across people who upload 4Mb photos, which is a total waste of space.

Oh, I’d never post photos that big. But yes, because this is a photography-driven site, it actually encourages you to post larger photos:
“People love full-size images of your work, so make sure the images you include are at least 1100px wide. Illustratr displays these images at full width on larger screens.”
I’d never post things even 1MB (at least intentionally). I normally size things down – and I always edit the photos before posting. I just hit 50 posts as of this morning and have used 2% of my space. I’m probably going to purchase more space eventually anyway – and definitely am going to purchase the CSS package this weekend. I really appreciate all of your help. Thank you!! Have a great weekend.
