Is it possible to get a database backup of my wordpress.com blog?

  We’re trying to move the positionu4college blog over to a hosting company so we can use our new domain name (instead of wordpress.com).

  1) Is there any way we can get a database backup (sql) of the blog?
  2) If not, what are our alternatives?

  You can take a full export from Tools > Export in the dashboard of your WordPress.com blog and then import this into your new blog from Tools > Import.
