Is it possible to get a static page with an "enter-button" that links you to the

Hi! I have finally found a theme I like more or less when trying to build my authors page, the nishita theme. However, wanting a static “welcome page” with just the title of the page and the background Picture, and then two buttons that links to the next pages (one in English and one in Swedish) , where I will have pages possibly presenting me as an author and a menu with stuff like, my books and blog and such in two different languages. Is this possible in any of the wordpress.com themes, preferrably the free ones? Is it possible to buy such a feature without having to go premium for a whole year, and if not, if you choose to go premium the year you create the site, does the button stay where it if you then switch over to the standard option?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

You could do this type of setup within the Nishita theme. It may be a bit involved to setup, but it would not require any upgrades. The theme doesn’t really have a “welcome page” built-in, but we can fake it. :)

Basically, since you’re trying to split the site in two, we can’t use the typical navigation menu. So we’re going to build two custom menus, and display them using widgets.

Here’s some broad step-by-step, and as you go along let me know about any specific snags you hit and I’ll do my best to help you out:

    1. You’ve already adjusted your Reading Settings to display a static front page, Contact. You can leave this as-is if this is what you’d like, or you can create a new page that has all the Welcome content you prefer. We’re going to be adding links to the Swedish and English further portions of your site in a widget area.
    2. Create a Swedish main page — as you create more pages (author, my books, contact, etc) for the Swedish half of your site, make the Swedish main page their parent. (Support: Parent pages)
    3. Do the same thing for your English portion, a main page, then all the other English pages within have the English main page as their parent.
    4. Next, create two Custom Menus, one for all your Swedish pages and one for all your English pages. (Support: Custom Menus)
    5. Once those menus are created, you can insert them into your static home page’s footer or sidebar areas using the Custom Menu Widget. Using the widget’s visibility settings, hide the English menu from all the Swedish pages; hide the Swedish menu from all the English pages. But display both on the home page.

Note as you set this up, each WordPress.com’s site has only one blog feed. If you want the Swedish and English blog posts to appear separately, I’d recommend setting up a Category for both Swedish and English. Then on each custom menu, link to the Category Page for the English/Swedish posts.

    Best,

    -Alex G.
