Is it possible to have a domainname but your own email?

    Hi!

Is it possible to have your own domain but still email somewhere else if you have an account (not a own installation). It seems like it is not possible and this is really strange. Even if a company uses a WP blog for web, they might not want to change their email to a free solution..

So is there a way not moving all DNS functions to WP, only A-rec? There are also ways that you could point their web adress they have today diretcly, but with C-name (you need the WP blog to answer correctly to this, and I don’t think it will…) and if you just do a forward I guess you loose some in SEO..

Would be VERY GRATEFUL for some help!

BTW, the blog I am talking about here is not the bimbo one above, but another one.

    Regards, Sanna

If you use the WordPress.com DNS (NS1.WORDPRESS.COM etc) you can only use Google Apps for email: http://support.wordpress.com/domain-mapping/custom-email/

However, if you map a subdomain to your blog using a CNAME: http://support.wordpress.com/domain-mapping/map-subdomain/ you retain control over your DNS and can therefore use whatever you like for your email.

I don’t understand why can you not use your own name servers. Why do you have to use wordpress.com’s name servers?

I don’t think you do, necessarily. WordPress.org allows you to use the WordPress software but still have your own domain name. They charge a nominal fee, I believe.
