Is it possible to have subscriptions to private blogs?

  I have a private blog, and I don’t want it to be visible to search engines are anyone other than registered users. However, it would be extremely convenient if there were a way for my registered users to subscribe to the blog (not just to comments on particular posts). Without that ability, I now have to notify them individually that their is a new post.

  Is there any way to set up a subscription to a private blog?

  I don’t know if the new blog subscription widget will work with private blogs or not. The support document doesn’t say, but you can give it a try if you wish.

  I guess the drama potential depends on whether the widget gives them a generic “Hey, we’ve got a new post, check it out” or whether it gives them the actual contents. A simple update alert with only a link won’t do any harm.
