Is it possible to have two separate categories or hide categories?
-
Hi, I am trying to have two separate categories sections. This is what I wan to do. Have a drop down menu with a type of food that can be found in a recipe. But I want to keep my recipe category, just recipes. I am as confused as you are probably, but just thought I would ask.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

You can assign two categories to the recipes and then have both of those categories in the top navigation. Example: Recipe post title “Quick Eggplant Parmesan” and then also assign a category of “eggplant” to the recipe.

If I’m missing the boat, please explain further what you want to accomplish.
Categories are quite flexible and you can even have sub categories and subs of the sub categories, and with the custom menu feature here, you have incredible flexibility.

It will show up in the category widget, but with a custom menu, you can decide what you include and what you do not. The one thing with sub categories though is that the subcategory stuff will show up when you view the parent category, so perhaps it would be best to stay away from subcategories. That would give you more control.
I’m on my way to bed. It is nearly midnight here in Hawaii and my eye are starting to cross.

I’ll continue from where TSP left off. My comment here is focused on display of your Categories in the horizontal menu of your blog where static pages normally display. If you wish you can include categories and subcategories (in dropdowns) pages and sub-pages (in dropdowns) of your own choice, and custom links in your custom menu.
These are the how-to instructions:
1. You create a custom menu. http://en.support.wordpress.com/menus/
2. You add the Categories you want to display and arrange them in the order you want.
3. Then you add and drop and drag the sub-categories below the appropriate Categories, and when you have everything arranged in the menu that you want you save the menu.
4. Go to the “theme location” module at upper left on the menu page. Select your custom menu name from the pull-down labeled “primary location.” Click the save button in that module.

You guys are the reason I love wordpress & I cannot thank you enough!! I will try this today & hopefully the custom menus will be what I’m hoping to accomplish. Again, THANK YOU!
