Is it possible to have VAT invoices issued?

Is it possible to have VAT invoices issued without having to ask for it after purchase? Thanks.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

I’m afraid not as WordPress.com don’t accept purchase orders etc. Payment needs to be made at the point when an upgrade is purchased. After that you can print off a receipt. Then once you have supplied a valid VAT number staff can issue you a VAT receipt (although I believe it will be zero rated).

OK, thanks. I do need to know if it is zero rated or otherwise, otherwise I can’t provide an accurate quote to my client.

I’ve tagged this thread to ask if a member of staff could confirm if the VAT on any invoice you receive will be zero rated.
Just my thoughts here but as WordPress.com is registered in the USA rather than the EU and you are in the UK and they are offering you a service rather than hard goods I don’t think VAT is really applicable. (If you look at the Gov UK website they talk about using “reverse charge VAT” for these sort of things ie: adding VAT to the payment you make and then claiming it back which seems a bit pointless to me).

Howdy –
Thanks for getting in touch. We currently only issue receipts, not invoices, at WordPress.com.
