Is it possible to make an category page that is just a list of links?
-
When one clicks on a link to a category, the page that opens is a sequence of all the blog posts in that category. Makes sense.
BUT, is it possible to have, instead of each post in full, one after the other, have a LIST of the titles of the posts in that category? That way, if you have, say, 100 posts in your category Quilting, a person can click “Quilting” and then quickly scan the list of post titles to find the one they’re looking for, instead of having to scroll through pages of entries looking for that one post.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Yes.
The way I did this was to make a *page* for each Category, then I used the display-posts shortcode. If you use this code below, it will list the posts in that category in alphabetical order with title only:
[display-posts category="category-slug-here" posts_per_page="-1" order="ASC" orderby="title"]
I also made a page with the code that would display ALL entries to my blog in a list, and made this the Parent Page of all the Pages with each separate category. (Note again, the pages were made specifically versus the ones generated automatically when you create a category for your blog posts).
Next, I used the Menus section to have these listed in the navigation for my site. I added all my pages to the menu, including the category pages. I then moved each category page as a sub-page of the main archive page that I made.
If you want to see it in action, go to my site and you will see it listed in the menu as “Articles & Posts” which if you mouse-over will drop down all the categories, then click on one and you can see a list of posts for that category. Site address: http://inspiringpassionforjesus.wordpress.com
I hope this helped. I was very glad when I learned to do this myself this week! :)

Thank you so much! I’ll try that tomorrow!
Just out of curiosity, where did you learn this? I would love to be able to understand the basic syntax so that I can mess with stuff too. :)

I learned via some of the WordPress.com help, such as this page about the display-posts Shortcode: https://en.support.wordpress.com/display-posts-shortcode/
Until recently, I had no idea you could do that on pages. Then, I thought it was not able to by categories. I had a thought that it was possible, so I looked it up and tried it! :)
There is also an archives Shortcode, though the display-posts one works best for listing titles in specific categories. Very helpful!

Other Shortcodes to use on WordPress.com: https://en.support.wordpress.com/shortcodes/
Full List of Shortcodes: https://en.support.wordpress.com/?s=shortcode
I also learned about Menus and other Appearance-specific info by looking at the Details page for the specific theme I use, and this page also has info on creating Menus that are beyond just the usual Pages: https://en.support.wordpress.com/menus/
Here you will discover that Menus can include not only Pages, but Links (such as if you have a YouTube Channel you want to link to), and Categories (although I, as you know, made pages for mine so that they would display a list of the posts by title only instead).
I’m very impressed with how much WordPress.com has developed. I love using it not only for blogs but as a content management platform for even business or non-profit web sites. :) Have fun!
