Is it possible to put a categories widget on a page (not a sidebar?)
-
I review books on my blog and I categorise by author … so now I’ve got a very long list of authors in my sidebar and it looks kind of daggy. What I’d really like would be to have an index page that updates itself automatically using categories.
Is this do-able?The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

No it is not possible to populate any page or post with widget data. Widgets can only be used in sidebar areas and footer areas for widgets.

timethief is correct, but there are a couple of ways you can display your reviews on a page.
1. View your source code and copy the links from your category widget. In the text editor of your page, paste the code. /Of course when you add a new author you will have to put the cat widget back into your sidebar and copy/paste again. But the category links will update. For example if you have an author ‘Jane Doe’ and you add a review of her latest book, that will update. But if you add ‘Jon Braun’ then you’ll have to update.2. Use shortcode:

You’ll have to assign a category for book reviews.I’m off for a dinner engagement but if you need help with that post again. I don’t have time to work out the details for the shortcode now.

Thanks, I’ll have a play around and see if I can get it to work.
